What we want: Crepuscular is interested in microfiction stories exploring places, characters, and questions buried in the gray areas between this and that, here and there, night and day, alive and dead, evil and good, feminine and masculine, up and down, real and unreal. If you're not quite sure what that means, lean into that feeling. Or, for more clarity, read one of our seven launch stories beginning October 13.
While we lean toward speculative pieces, we have a love for those in-betweeny pieces that blur genre. We accept horror (both spec and non), fantasy, science fiction, general/literary fiction, and everything in between. Try us!
While we accept any length under 250 words, drabbles are going to be a hard sell for us. Consider if your drabble has a complete story arc and a satisfying conclusion. We find them to be vignettes and abrupt in many cases.
What we ask for: Crepuscular requests first world electronic rights to include the work in Crepuscular via our Patreon for publication in the English language. We request a six month exclusivity period after which rights revert to the author. We publish each month on the 13th and the 29th. After our launch period, all stories will be available to Crepuscular Patrons only for the first 30 days after publication, and afterward will be available to the public.
Submissions Guidelines:
Submit your story in .doc or .docx only. Legibility is important, beyond that we don't care. (Please do not use Comic Sans.)
Please anonymize your work. No names or other identifying information should appear on the manuscript.
Maximum word length is 250 words. No multiple submissions. Simultaneous submissions are fine as long as you withdraw immediately if the work sells elsewhere.
Payment is $.10/word, but we guarantee a minimum of $5. PayPal only, for now.
Crepuscular is eager to publish diverse voices. We welcome submissions from writers of all races, color, religion/creed, gender, gender expression, military status, sexual orientation, age, national origin, disability, and marital status. However, because there are voices that have historically been underrepresented and explicitly ignored or minimized, the first week of every month is reserved for submissions from underrepresented voices as determined by authors.
We do not accept reprints.
We do not accept work written by AI.
