Submissions are free from late February through the end of March 2023 (or until we have reached 200 new submissions).
The Bluebird Word is an online literary journal for poetry, flash nonfiction and flash fiction. We launched in February 2022 and publish regularly each month. We are particularly interested in showcasing work from emerging authors and also accept contributions from writers across all cultural backgrounds and experience levels.
We set a monthly issue at the beginning of each month. Authors are published throughout the month in an effort to showcase the writer's work on the main page. New work is posted frequently, averaging three to four times a week. Please take a look at our website to get a sense of the variety of writing we publish. Full submission guidelines are also on our "Submit" page.
Simultaneous submissions are fine, but we request you advise us accordingly and withdraw your submission if accepted elsewhere.
We are looking for new writing. We do not accept previously published work (i.e. from other online or print publications, personal blogs, websites or social media).
All voices are welcome; however, The Bluebird Word will not tolerate writing which fosters or promotes discrimination, hatred or violence.
Please submit according to these parameters and only submit to one category at a time using .doc or .docx attachments:
Up to three poems per submission
OR
One flash nonfiction essay (up to 750 words preferred with a maximum 1,000 words)
OR
One flash fiction story (up to 750 words preferred with a maximum 1,000 words).
Please craft a maximum 50-word bio to be included with your submission. We also kindly request you wait 45 days to submit new work after hearing back from The Bluebird Word about your submission.
